Actually, though, New York State allows children as young as 14 (not 16, and I know you were only 12) to work in various jobs, as long as employed for no more than three hours on a schoolday and no more than 18 hours during a school week. When school is not in session, 14 and 15 year olds can work 40 hours a week.
