Excellent piece. This starts early. I remember becoming aware of how I was treated as a female when I was a kid in sixth grade. When a boy in class attempted humor, he received a good laugh, and if I joked (and I believe my joke was just as puerile), the boys made a noise at me instead of laughing. The girls tend to take the boys' lead, at least when you humor came into play.
