Excellent piece, Isabel. I have to say, even if you are blessed with what society considers the ideal, it is never easy. I am a grandmother now, but I was recently with my former roommate, who kept telling people, "When we walked down the streets of New York, people would push me into the gutter to get a look at her." That certainly wasn't quite true, but I'd often get embarrassed by the attention my looks would garner. I don't miss that, though I admit I now do lap up the occasional compliment. Yet my outer shell was never me; there was always a disconnect.
