I did NOT say there weren't great women artists, just that they were often not recognized (until mid-century). The groundbreaking Hilma af Klint has only received major recognition long after her death. Other great artists like Elaine de Kooning and Lee Krasner, were treated as shadows of their celebrated husbands during their lifetime.
