I like your take, a mix of science and spirit. It could provide certain answers regarding reincarnation, but I don't know if it addresses the fact that dying people so often speak to dead people from their past. I am often with a 99-year-old relative and she has been doing this for the last few months, though at other times she is perfectly lucid and aware of the present world around her. She has not yet mentioned floating above her body, but she may be earthbound for years to come as her vitals remain excellent.
