I never saw the film, but remember the hoopla about the making of Cruising, and having friends tell me not to watch it. So I don't have a fully formed opinion. I do know that NY in the early 1980s was full of some rather colorful gay sex bars. Several of my friends, soon to leave the earth, frequented a club called The Anvil. I never went there as women were not allowed.
