Interesting that you haven't been conditioned to develop a distaste for pea soup due to the connection with quakes, Michele! I've been in LA for many an earthquake, although not for the Northridge. The worst rumbling I ever experienced was in Mexico City, circa 1999. I was in the arena watching the lucha libra when I suddenly felt like I was on the IRT #1 subway. No one was injured in the arena, but there were 15 deaths 250 km away from the city.
