My late mother was in beauty pageants and I always found the concept strange. Now I have a dear friend who once was Miss World some thirty years ago. She is very proud of that fact; and it did lead her to travel opportunities and a different life in another country. That said, the whole idea of beauty contests seems out of touch with today.
