Our eyes tend to adjust to what is familar, and we usually see beautiful actresses like Pamela Anderson wearing make-up, so while there should be nothing shocking, we are shocked. If we lived in the 19th century, a drop of rouge on a cheek could destroy a woman's reputation. If we saw a painted lady then, it would have been shocking.
