So true. The loss of a loved one is always painful, no matter how old the deceased. My mother died young, but I am now the health proxy for a 98-year-old relative. When I agreed, I thought my role would just be enforcing the DNR she requested. But instead, it's been a few years of hiring aids and therapists, communicating with doctors (not easy), ER runs, visiting rehab facilities, etc. I am proud to be of service and I love my relative. But dying is hard.
