Some years ago, a well-known literary figure saw a manuscript of a novel I had written and a year later produced a very similar book, dedicated to the person who had shown her my manuscript. I met with a lawyer and was told that if the thief's book made a lot of money, I would have reason to sue. It didn't so there was no case. But I was deeply depressed over the whole episode.
