The families have to submit their tax reports and apply for Pell grants. But that is not my point; my point is that most of the students are not from families in the top few percentage points of income. To be in the top 5%, you receive an annual income of close to $300,000 and no Ivy League university gives financial assistance to people in that bracket. It is true that other top tier colleges like Duke and Stanford will give athletic scholarships, even if the family has billions.
