This is extraordinarily educational and well-written, Karen. I began to compare my essays with your template, and did find one suggestion that you use here a couple times that is not in line with some of my recent Medium essays. You say to "focus on delighting" my readers, and I think I may sometimes disappoint my readers rather than delight them, in that my subject matter may negate some prior held beliefs. For example, my last essay on Medium was about a famous singer/songwriter who claimed to be indigenous for sixty years, and has now been uncovered as having no First Nations blood whatsoever. I can't imagine someone being "delighted" with this information, but I assume some would find it intriguing and a good read. This is what I am talking about: https://medium.com/counterarts/is-buffy-sainte-marie-a-first-nations-wannabe-71382e81376a
