We aren't all so bad and sauce-crazed, Pierre. And French friends can also be quite inconsiderate. I once made a Thanksgiving dinner and invited three French people. I had worked for two days, shelling chestnuts, baking pumpkin pies, roasting a turkey, making a cranberry and orange and walnut sauce, setting a pretty table, etc. One of my guests decided to turn on a James Bond film on TV during dinner! The other two went along with him. I vowed to never host Thanksgiving again and I haven't. There are unthinking Americans and unthinking French. I may be wrong but I sense a Japanese father-in-law or Japanese Thanksgiving guests would be more considerate than their American or French counterparts. It does feel hurtful when you work hard to prepare a meal and it is unappreciated.
