What an amazing journey hither and yon, Gerald. It sounds like you are back on track, proceeding at a slower pace so you will still be able to enjoy food as you become healthier rather than feeling you are in a state of denial. I am also a sugar addict and I know how that high can feel. More more more candy, ice cream, chocolate. I can be fine for months, even enjoying dessert, but than something will set me off and I will only eat sweets for days.
